How to Reinvigorate Your Style This Season?

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ON PERSONAL COLOUR ANALYSIS

New seasonal styles often come with a palette of colour trends. For some, this invites lust-like admiration, but with a shadowing hesitation to dabble with colours other than the classic ‘safe’ neutrals. Contrarily for the more experimental ones, the quest for aligning style with hues of colour tends to be more of a wistful adventure. Whether you are shy to try or need some expert guidance on discovering your perfect colour palette, get ahead with my guide on personal colour analysis and how it can reinvigorate your style this season.

Did you know that certain colours can accentuate, or conversely, diminish an individual’s features and persona? Allow me to introduce you to the style revolution of ‘personal colour analysis’. In essence it is the process of figuring out which colours and colour palette best suit you, and of course recognising the colours that simply don’t do you justice! Above all, personal colour analysis encourages you to explore various styles that allow you to glow with confidence, and highlight your natural features.

THE POWER OF PERSONAL COLOUR ANALYSIS

Scanning runway trends for colour ideas is one way to seek inspiration for styles, but that may not work for everyone. Thanks to the power of personal colour analysis, the focus shifts more towards what personally suits you, rather than necessarily following the herd. As a result of wearing colours that compliment your skin tone and natural features, your overall style and look is in for a mood-boosting overhaul. There are various ways to go about this, but I personally like to use the 12-season method for personal colour analysis, which first explores colour variations amongst the different seasons.

Seasonal colour analysis is the most used tool for personal colour analysis, which considers the natural colour of your skin, hair and eyes. As a result, when you apply transformative styling tweaks like this to your wardrobe, you will inevitably choose colours that bring more of that je ne sais quoi factor to your style and personality.

The Art of Colour Theory

For us to apply the art of personal colour analysis to our style, we need to understand the different aspects of colour. These include:

Hue – The temperature of colour; warm, neutral, or cool.

Value – How light or dark a colour is.

Chroma – Whether a colour is bright, neutral, or muted.

Just as clothing colours can be described through these metrics, so can people’s natural skin tone. Through personal colour analysis, you can identify your colour profile by where you sit on each of the three colour scales. Subsequently, by determining the settings of the three values scales of your natural colour palette, the colours that share the same dimensions can then be matched.

All  in all, when considering seasonal trends, these principles apply accordingly. For example; Spring and Winter colours are bright and defined, whereas Summer and Autumn are soft and muted. Thus the 12-season colour analysis builds upon these foundations, and then subsequently involves sub-dividing each of the seasons into two neutral categories; resulting in four ‘true’ seasons and two neutral seasons for each of these.

HOW I DISCOVER YOUR BEST COLOURS

I love to work with my clients in discovering colour nuances that will elevate them, as well as enhance their wardrobe, personality, and most importantly their confidence! Firstly, I discuss the concept of ‘personal contrast’ and how it can be affected by the colours clients choose. Personal contrast describes the biggest contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes. For example; if you have light skin and dark hair, your contrast is high.

By the end of the session my client leaves more confident in their unique colour palette that has been expertly designed by me.

My next step is to establish whether my client’s skin tone is Autumn, Winter, Spring or Summer. For this I use a selection of coloured drapes against the client’s skin to observe the direct impact these colours have on their skin tone, and of course, their other natural features. Once I know their season, I then test the sub-season drapes and identify which characteristic of colours are predominant for them. This is where the colour theory for personal colour analysis, hue, value and chroma, comes into action. Once we have established the best combination of parameters, I delve into the most suited hair and makeup colours for the client, and what colours they can mix and match for their most flattering looks.

By the end of the session my client leaves more confident in their unique colour palette that has been expertly designed by me. What’s more, my clients can use this effective tool whenever they are shopping for their ideal clothes and makeup; empowering them to make decisions with assurance, and of course enjoyment too! If you are interested in exploring your own ideal colour palette, my personally designed ones are available on Etsy for you to purchase.
